“Do Not Be Afraid”

This angel has been at the top of our Christmas tree for many years. Our son, Dwight made it when he was 5 yrs. old.

The words “Do not be afraid” are easier said than done. How easy it is to focus on the scary things like…tornadoes, cancer, price increases, shootings. Okay, I need to stop. I’m scaring myself. God knows how easy it is for us to get scared. That Christmas night God gave an angel the assignment to go tell the shepherds that Jesus was born with the words, “Do not be afraid.” An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:9-11 What helps me when thoughts and feelings want to scare me is to remind myself of how Great God is. Then run to His Word. His Word is God’s voice. My prayer is that you and me too, will sense in His Word, God lovingly whispering…”I’ve got this. Do not be afraid.

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. Psalm 56:3-4

  1. I am so thankful I do not have to be afraid as I know God cares and loves me. I do my best to see the the good in brokenness and speak about positive topics. I want to have an ongoing spirit of gratitude. Now I know we have to face some bad mishaps in life that we donโ€™t have much choice or control in dealing with at this time.
But I also know Romans 8:28 says He will bring good for those who love Him. If you are afraid of the now or the future let your faith take hold and you can let go as God tells us in His word He can bring the Good so no need for you to have fear. .

  2. The words โ€œDo not be afraidโ€ are, indeed, easier said than done, especially when we fail to seek Father God’s help to obey that command (as well as others). As His Word reminds me; “apart from Him we can do nothing,” (John 15:5); but, “we can do ALL things through Him who strengthens us.” (Philippians 4:13) That’s why knowing, trusting, believing, and relying on His Word, incuding the following, is extremely important (and comforting) to me:

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be dismayed.
    (Deuteronomy 31:8)

“[Father God] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; [He] will counsel you with His loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8)

Finally, Father God’s Word is “a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105). Obeying Phillipians 4:7-8, and with Father God’s ever-present help,” I have chosen to mediate on/think about things that are true; specifically, Father God’s Word. Doing so, strengthens and blesses me with His perfect peace, which surpasses all understanding and guards my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I am sooo very thankful for everything the Lord has done (and is doing) in my life to bring me to wholeness. Father God is soooo good! Praise His Holy &Mighty Name! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ
